History of Sadhu Singh Shergill Academy
The school was established in 1983 styled as Punjab Rural Public School. It was a dream come true for Sardar Sadhu Singh Shergill as he had nursed and cherished an ambition to establish a school which could provide quality as well as meaningful education to the students of rural area.
The establishment of the school marked a significant step in the history of imparting quality education in the rural areas of Punjab which was dotted with dilapidated school buildings. Education was a distant dream as the state was passing through a very difficult phase where all development had been struck due to militancy. The endeavour was to promote common system of education, common culture and National integration. The goal was very difficult and path ahead was not without obstacles. But the founders had a very clear vision, mission dear to their heart and equally pragmatic approach to execute the programme.
The school was first of its kind in rural Punjab to get NOC in 1995 from the state government to get affiliation from CBSE, New Delhi. Initially the school had the support of Punjab Rural Education Promotion Council, and then of The DAV College Managing Committee New Delhi with name being changed to Sadhu Singh D.A.V. Rural Public School, Mukandpur. But from 1996, the school has been functioning independently & gracefully under dynamic and visionary guidance of Dr. Amarjit Singh (Founder Secretary & Vice Chairman), achieving greater heights on all fronts ranging from infrastructure, strength of students, faculty, up-gradation to senior secondary level and to become a centre of excellence for sports. Badminton Academy and Rifle Shooting Range having national affiliations have strengthened the already existing vast sports facilities. Planned and vast development in infrastructure and manpower matching to the growing demands of the time and technology, outstanding improvement in results year by year coupled with glorious achievement in sports in CBSE and state games have given the school a clear edge over others in the region, where parents aspire to send their children and students aspire to come for learning in a very conducive and healthy environment.
